Where We Are
Our headquarters is located on California’s beautiful Monterey Peninsula, visited by millions of tourists each year for its renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium and Jazz Festival, historic Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf, beautiful beaches, fine restaurants, wineries, art galleries and famous area golf courses (Pebble Beach). What many do not know is that Monterey is the Language Capital of the World, directly involved with a full 25 percent of the nation's post-secondary learning in languages other than English.
The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) is regarded as one of the finest schools for foreign language instruction in the nation. The Institute provides resident instruction at the Presidio of Monterey in 24 languages and several dialects. It accommodates approximately 3,500 Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen, as well as select Department of Defense members and the U.S. Coast Guard. To attend DLIFLC one must be a member of the Armed Forces or be sponsored by a government agency.
The Middlebury Institute of International Studies, a graduate school of Middlebury College, provides international professional education in areas of critical importance to a rapidly changing global community, including international policy and management, translation and interpretation, language teaching, sustainable development, and non-proliferation. The graduates are emerging leaders capable of bridging cultural, organizational, and language divides to produce sustainable, equitable solutions to a variety of global challenges.
With the Monterey community as a talented base, Translation by Design and other Monterey organizations play a major role in delivering translation and interpretation services around the globe.
